Most people seems to know that one of the purposes of Facilities Management (FM) is to support the core objectives of the organization and its business. Yet the FM profession is still struggling to gain its identity, as compared to the clear identity that the profession such as the Workplace Safety and Health Officer, Fire Safety Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Professional Engineers, License Electrical Workers and Architect.

Whenever a FM practitioner is asked “what do you do for a living” or “what do you do in FM”, there seemed to be struggle to explain.

Let’s ponder over these three questions:

• What is that unique feature of FM that it seeks to provide to bring about value and advantage to organization?
• What are FM key concepts?
• How should we strife to develop the clear identity that the profession needs in order to gain the recognition it deserves?
